A letter to the art of telling stories: I honestly don’t know why, but every time that I am with you it feels like my existence on this round ball of dirt is justified. Sometimes, I feel that the stories I’m attempting to tell are trivial to what’s happening in the world, but in another way, that trivial story has so much gravity to me. Maybe it’s a selfish thing that I want to continue telling peoples’ stories for the feeling of fulfillment afterward, but I feel so strongly that each person around me has a story with a pulse, a shimmer, and a breath, awaiting to be acknowledged. It’s not even that I’m overtly trying to embellish and exaggerate your story, but rather that I find a peculiar charm to it. I hate not knowing how far you will take me, but for this season, I will attempt to savor all of you.
family time on the pacific. i now know that my Great Uncle secretly taught himself how to weld during his lunch breaks as a general laborer on construction jobs in Korea—or it was the start at least, more on this later, maybe. i also learned that my Dad gets seasick—i only do for 2 hours, and my Great Uncle does not

Nüthin like mountain biking at night at a jump park that’s fully lit up just ~45 minutes away from Seattle. Many thanks to the folks over at Summit Ridge for opening all of this to the public and maintaining it in such nice condition.

It a surprise--we had thought that making our decision to leave after glancing at the weather twice was enough until we drove through Wenatchee and was greeted by snow on either ridgeline beside us. Further into Leavenworth, there was a slurry of snow and slush on the road, and by the time we got to our campsite we were on what seemed to feel like an ice rink. If the road couldn't tell us enough, the entire weekend was a bit crispy, but luckily our friend Ryan brought his stove and saved us all from losing our toes.
Here's to more obnoxious power screams while doing V4s.
Tour of Walla Walla was quite the creative exercise—the subject in question was illustrating the grit of the crit. Feelings on the saddle with mouth open, inaudible screaming, drooling, snot spiraling out, laser focus, scrubbing corners, and everything in between.
it was wet - everyone was smiling
Friday nights can elicit many fun events underneath ceilings—on this particular night, we chose to be underneath the stars. Having decided to execute this grand plan (or lack there of) at 12:05 am, we forgot our eggs, sporks, plates along with a plethora of things, but we most certainly did not forget to have a good time. Cheers to cowboy camping.
bread? check. cheese? check. microgreens? check. tent? nah. In retrospect, a tent definitely would’ve prohibited the dew from assaulting Nathaniel and my sleeping rigs in the early morning, but clothes dry out—go figure. What you can’t feel, god forbid see, from this photoset is the absurd soreness that our cheeks felt after our first day of having more than 30lbs extra pressure on our sit bones for 18.5 miles. Next time we are taking saddle bags a million times over. Now to the positives. The reward after all that elevation? Incredible. A dip in crisp water followed by cheese, bread, and microgreens will never feel and taste as good as that moment.
my 4runner’s u joints failed on this trip - thanks for sticking around and saving my ass JT
Bouts of self reflection will greet you as they wash up with every wave.
A truly magical evening with Ben at the coast summer of 2022.
Imagine this: it’s a crispy 7 degrees out and crystal clear blue skies. Outside your yurt, a formidable pile of logs, and beside it, a quaint little outhouse. You peak back into the yurt and feel the draft of warmth from the crackling wood stove brush across your frozen eyelashes—the ladder everyone hangs their socks and clothes on reminds you of a Christmas tree. Memories of last night’s aching knees have dissipated like the moisture on your balaclava—thanks to two small pills of ibuprofen. This is good, really good.

walla walla, wa - fall 2021
To whoever contrived of boat backpacking—many thanks to you from myself and my legs. A few summers ago, a handful of friends and I were presented with the wonderful opportunity to explore Ross Lake. After a short hike and jet boat ride into the resort, a fleet of dainty fishing boats equipped with small but feisty outboard motors were presented to us to pick from. These rickity vessels allowed us to poot across the lake to explore waterfalls, bridges, hunt for mushrooms, and write many memories without punishing our legs.
After a couple days, half the group split off. JT, Silas, and I ended up checking off one more lake in the Northern Cascades and called it a weekend after we got rained out. Thank you JT’s old CVT tent for keeping us dry and cozy.
